Steve Irwin
I love animals. Always have. I've had dogs, ferrets, cats, gerbils, fish, hamsters, and a turtle. My wife has had the same plus several others including chickens, goats, and a lot more. So, it's not uncommon in our house for Animal Planet to be on in the background. "The Most Extreme," "Meerkat Manor" and the dog shows are all favorites. As are, of course, all of the Croc Hunter shows.
We always thought Steve Irwin was amazing for several reasons. His causes, his big heart, his accomplishments, his energy, his ability to actaully LIVE life, and his way with animals. I can't even count how many times I've seen him get bitten and just smile. A reptile's jaw would be clamped over his finger, blood trickling down his arm, and he'd just talk about how beautiful it was. He seemed invincible. So much so that his immortality was often a joke.
Which is why when I got a text message at two in the morning (after coming back from a late night "PARANOIA" game) that simply read, "Steve Irwin just died," I laughed.
Someone was obviously pulling my chain because of the recent youtube videos. It HAD to be a joke.
Steve Irwin doesn't die.
Just in case, I turned on CNN. And sure enough, there was the story about a freak accident while filming underwater. My wife was removing her makeup in the restroom. She stopped what she was doing when I told her what happened. We just sat on the edge of the bed staring at the television in disbelief.
All the while, the Steve Irwin doll I've used as LOST Ninja was in the corner of the room. It was a present to my wife from her Dad a few years back. I brought him to take pictures of "Ninja" at Dragon*Con, but never got around to it.
I'm very glad I didn't.
Pretty much everyone in the bloggosphere has already covered why Steve Irwin will be missed. He's done a lot of good in this world and made a lot of people happy, including yours truly.
And, no, the Irwin doll will NOT be used in the videos again. But I'm glad it WAS used. To me, it's a testament to just how much Steve Irwin has made his mark. He's a household name not just in Australia, but world wide. He is an icon and a hero.
So, to Teri, Bindi, and Bob - I send good vibes and thoughts.
And to Steve...
Thank you.
RIP :(

Well said Speaker.
Its weird that his death has rocked so many people.
We all joked, "That guy is going to get himself killed."
He dodged death so many times we thought it was impossible to kill him, and so we he died it reminded us that if he can die then all of us can.
I met his wife 2 years ago at an dinner. She was a very kind woman to everyone and stayed an hour after the dinner until she signed an autograph for every person who wanted one.
My Condolences to his wife and two children.
Sincerely,
THE WOLFE

HE WILL BE MISS

I saw this at the end of a CNN article and it really resonated:
"He has left a legacy: That people do love some of the unloved animals like crocodiles and reptiles that people wanted to kill," Stainton told CNN.
"He's actually put a position in their hearts for them. I want that to continue. ... I want people to really go out there and remember Steve Irwin for what he really was, which was a great conservationist, saving wildlife and actually promoting wildlife that people didn't love."
Posted by: Cadfile | September 04, 2006 at 08:56 PM
Very nice words.
Strangely, after I saw this news my first thought was "What will Speaker do?!?"
Though I'm thinking that continuing to use the Irwin doll might BE appropriate. Let the man live on! Be it doll form or whatnot.
The best thoughts I've seen on the web have been the quotes from Irwin himself concerning animals' instinctual self-defense reflexes. (Paraphrasing a paraphrasing):
.
""I can't blame her. I'm coming into her territory. She's just doing what comes naturally. I'm the invader, here. If she attacks, she's just doing what she's supposed to."
That kinda sums up the morbid irony and the sadness. Not a bad way to go out. But certainly a bad way to go out for the father of a very young daughter.
Posted by: KBarrick | September 04, 2006 at 09:02 PM
I was stunned when I heard. He really did know how to live life. I feel so bad for his family. God bless him. Thannks for the nice words Speaker.

Interestingly, one of the definitions of Dharma (Hindu according to answers.com) is this:
The essential function or nature of a thing.
That's pretty much what Steve Irwin described, honored and educated us about wildlife.
An odd tie-in to TLE, but I just couldn't get it out of my mind.

Rest in Peace Steve.

Oddly when I recieved the news of his death I was informed that "Steve Irwin was killed" I instantly thought he was murdered. I was thinking who the hell would want to kill the croc hunter?! When I heard how he died... I thought it fitting in a weird aussie animal maniac way.
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 10:04 PM
That was beautifully put Speaker. It really suprised me how much i actually felt saddened by the death of a celebrity i barely knew. Steve Irwin always felt like a geniunly good person, and I feel the world is a little more empty without him.

I know it's already been said dozens of time already, but...well said, Speaker!
Like you, I was disbelieving when I heard about the accident, then my thoughts went to his wife and children. (And then, yes, I thought about the doll in your videos! I think Steve would've gotten a kick out of that, though...really shows how much of an iconic Aussie he was!) I'm definitely saddened by what happened--I always enjoyed his show because, while it was entertaining to see the crazy situations he'd get himself into, his passion for animals shone through in each episode. It sounds as if he died doing what he loved; I only wish it hadn't been so soon. RIP Steve...

Steve Irwin was a such a special man that I can't bring myself to tell my kids that he's passed. They watch him everyday and I'm sure they will continue to do so. They love him and his genuine spirit. It was always clear that he appreciated life and every creature big and small. He taught us everyone has a purpose, a place and deserves to be seen as the miracle that they are. Thank you Steve..we wish you and your family peace

Goodbye Steve. You will always be remembered
Posted by: Sharayah | September 04, 2006 at 10:31 PM
I have to agree with K.Barrick on this one. Use the doll. To me it signifies the legacy he has created and left with us. The fact that he WILL be missed by so many is the fact of the matter. You should continue to recognize him as a part of your life as well as your muse of sorts. I felt the same way when they started removing the Twin Towers from old movies being played on TV shortly after 9-11. Which thankfully didn't last long, but It is wrong to forget, to leave behind things when they are gone. This is what you intend to do Speaker, and I think you should take a minute to think of all the times you watched him and thought. This guy is genius and deserves more recognition. Don't hide the doll in a box, but continue to let it bring joy and entertainment to the world around you. The man would have wanted it that way.

Posted by: Noblelawyer | September 04, 2006 at 10:34 PM
I think it was good that Speaker used the Irwin doll, and it was a sign of Irwin's mark in our world. However I agree that it should not be used anymore. It is too close to his tragic death. When his death is not so raw in everyone's memory, maybe it would be o.k. but not anytime in the near future.
Posted by: noblelawyer | September 04, 2006 at 10:37 PM
The homages to Steve Irwin are touching, and great legacy to the iconic status the man possessed. However, I hope that his legacy will extend into the conservationist policies he extolled and championed, and to which to his last minutes he was 100% dedicated. Steve Irwin was more than a pop culture icon; he was a sincere and deeply committed environmentalist whose lasting contributions to wildlife education will extend far beyond the years his image appeared on television and film.
I like you, Speaker, have no immediate plans to use my secretary's Steve Irwin doll in photos on my travels, as I did in Japan and as I planned before last night in my forthcoming visits to Cleveland. However, a day will undeoubtedly return where the enthusiasm, and joi d'vie that marked his daily exploits will warrant taking him again. For if there was one thing about Steve that we can all agree, it is that his enthusiasm and love of life were infectious. He will be missed, but not forgotten. And the memories I carry of the man are happy ones, as it should be and as we all can only hope will be the memory friends and acquaintances bear of us at our passing.
Lovely tribute, Speaker, and everyone else.

I am glad to hear you are retiring the Steve doll in honor of the real Steve. I'm sure he would have loved how much we all take joy in him. He too loved to laugh and was very humble.
I still can't imagine such a privital figure in animal conservation is gone. He's doing what he loves. A message for us all.
Very wise and kind thoughts by many posters here too.

We all thought 44 was too early. But when your number's up...
I think they should set up a little shrine or something on the coast near that island for him, so that the kids in future generations can go there with us (all old and grey) and we can say to them, 'Yep. That was Steve Irwin. Great man, did a lot for Australia, and a lot for the wildlife.'

Nicely said, Speaker.
When I first saw Steve Irwin on TV, I thought he was completely insane. I was irritated by his incessant good humor and daredevil antics.
But the guy just grows on you. After what, ten years of TV, he became something more than That Crazy Aussie. It gradually became apparent that he really meant everything he said and did. He really did love animals -- all animals -- and would do anything to help us appreciate him.
So I was pretty stunned when I heard the news today, too. And seeing all of the lovely tributes here -- in a blog that has just about nothing to do with him -- makes me realize how many people have come to appreciate his childlike sense of play in the animal world.
May we all have the honor of dying while we're doing the thing we love most.
G'day, Steve.

Sorry I had a customer:)
You do customer service for hotel networks right? Well, my wireless connection keeps dropping my connection every five minutes or so. Why would it do that?
Everytime it does
I have to right click on the network icon
Click on View Available Wireless Neworks
Click on the box to okay connecting to an unsecure wireless network
And finally click on connect to reconnect.
I have to do that every five minutes. Is there anyway to stop that?
Posted by: Cadfile | September 05, 2006 at 12:44 AM
One of two things that I see in this situation is One the main controller/gateway needs to be reset, or two the wireless access point needs to be reset, or is failing
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 12:50 AM
It may be worth it to move to a different area and try and stay connected, that will tell you if it is a problem with the wireless access point
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 12:51 AM
You think it might be the adapter I'm using with my computer? It's a 802.11b adapter and the network is 802.11g. The thing is pretty old and kind of in bad shape too.
Posted by: Cadile | September 05, 2006 at 12:55 AM
Possibly your adaptor. Many of our hotels have a wireless bridge for guests without wifi cards. If you have one of those available it would be worth a try.

My mum and dad are pretty okay with the net (mainly because I clear my cache and history every night), but Mum tends to eb paranoid about me being on MSN and YIM. She practically interrogates me about who's who, and then tells me to make sure everyone's who they say they are, even my pen-friend (who both myself and my mum have seen on webcam a zillion times). So it gets a little annoying. But 90% of all this supposed "Internet Danger" is propoganda, and that is a well-known fact. Case closed.
After all, i have yet to run into any creeps on the net.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 02:41 AM
I don't believe all the hype, but I still monitor my kids, mainly because they are so young. They still have to prove they can be totally trusted. But clearing everything wouldn't work in my house. Everything that goes through is monitored by my programs

It's true, employers aren't allowed to look at your school reports.
lectric - Hate to rain on your parade, but we're getting one glyph every 2 days here, so I reckon it'll speed up around about mid-next-week, then it'll slow up again. We'll be another fortnight on this.
Hopefully by the end of this, my cat scratches will have healed. They're on both arms now.

danny - If it helps, try my school therapy.
1. Stand facing a wall.
2. Rest your forehead on the wall.
3. Repeat after me: I hate school. I'm not going to fail because doing so would mean staying at school for longer than necessary. Therefore, I will make a good attmept at breezing through school so I can get away from it.
4. Repeat each morning for the next six months.
Oh and if you can't wake up in the mornings, try Berocca Performance. If it tastes icky, add a little bit of honey or half a spoonful of sugar.

Bigdog - Ohhh no, mate. This act is just getting warmed up. We're all out of glyphs - now we're onto Apollo bars. It's going to start speeding up until by the end of it, we'll be beyond trying to catch our breath. and then it'll slow up, and we'll start getting spoonfed again as a rest.
I'm telling you, tihs is going to culminate in plane tickets to [insert RB's supposed location by the time we get to that here]
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 03:53 AM
Welcome back Speaker, despite the horrible thing you were welcomed back to....I'll assume I missed no glyphs during the night and I'll be back on after school....god school sucks. Cya. Oh, and more people had better be on chat tonight. We've been having a very slow labor day weekend. Okay, gotta try to not miss the bus.

brb after dinner cya!

RB is in Utah making sure my apollo is delivered

Zoe - I still disagree we had 2 day and most likely 2 tommrow
Posted by: Bigdog | September 05, 2006 at 03:57 AM
danny - Yikes! That is a reason to get up!
I'm taking my wake-up time back from 9:45 to 8:15, which means I'll be taking my sleeping hours down to 8 hours, which is my average. My goal (by next year) is to be adapting to 5 hours of sleep. You can't miss much in 5 hours (unless you're Jack Bauer, and then you're not sleeping full stop).

Yeah we need you for the chatters army we chat on YIM so join us and chat way if anyone needs to yim message me at littlepup5555 and we shall get in you no matter what if we can

LMFAO at the new Mutual Community ad, with the two little kids using the automatic treadmill to launch the plates and stuff at the wall. That always cracks me up!

One thing that will be interesting to learn by the end of the day is the nature of the "Bonus Materials" from the Season 2 Lost DVD, which is released nationwide in the US today. I don't think they will be tied to glyphs or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if the RB Orientation Film is included -- either formally in the DVD, or as an Easter Egg. Note that would not necessarily mean the portions related to Mittelwerk would have to be included, since the orientation film could be a bonus feature on its own.
Then again, maybe there are no links whatsoever in the packaging to the ARG. I guess we'll know by the end of the day.
Posted by: Monte | September 05, 2006 at 04:07 AM
Nice tribute there Speaker. I agree with your decision not to use the doll - while people shouldn't forget about him and consign their dolls to the back of cupboards, to use it as a joke so soon after such a tradgic accident would be poor taste. People who say you should still use it are correct in their reasoning, but the time for that will be in a month or so, not 2 days after.
Now... back to this glyphtacular final week!

Oh well, on my way to the airport in a moment. Here's hoping everyone has a great Tuesday (or a great Wednesday for those on the other side of the planet).
Posted by: Monte | September 05, 2006 at 04:16 AM
Night, Bigdog.
Monte - They may put in one of the RB vids, maybe the ComicCon one, to suck people into the ARG or something. Although it is a little late.
Augh! I just got mauled by the cat again! And this time, he jumped at my face! And he clawed my nose.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 04:21 AM
Zoe - your cat reminds me of my old cat, we called her Psycho. She was always attacking someone in the house
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 04:24 AM
Ix - Doulbe thumbs up and icecream for you on Zuday for making that Glyph-O-Matic! So much easier to use, especially for my dialup!
Monte - Hope you have a great flight!
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 04:25 AM
lectric - Well, after that episode, Happy Hour's over, so the cat's had his hyperactivity worked out of him. Now it's time for him to sleep. Which he's doing.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 04:26 AM
my littlest kitten will wait until we go to bed, then spend half the night attacking our feet every time we move them
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 04:29 AM
Danny & Zeo - glad you both find it useful. I'll have to pass on the icecream though, I'm on a sympathy-sugar-free-diet for a month whilst my girlfriend is on one (it includes no eating Apollo!) :(
Posted by: Ixalon | September 05, 2006 at 04:29 AM
Err.. Zeo? Zoe sorry!
Posted by: Ixalon | September 05, 2006 at 04:30 AM
Hey all! 61 still MIA?
Posted by: Nickb123 | September 05, 2006 at 04:32 AM
lectric - Tao does that too, but once he's asleep, he's asleep. And then he twitches in his sleep for no apparant reason.
Ix - Well, maybe instead of icecream I could give you a glass of yummy ice-cold Sprite Zero. It has no sugar in it. It has fructose :).
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 04:39 AM
Nick - Not so sure that we're even missing 61..but we're still waiting on the UK glyphs.
Just watched the full Sri Lanka vid - the torch is what got RB caught, she shone it right in TM's eyes.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 04:48 AM
Zoe - just checked, we are still missing 61 according to HE statistics. UK glyphs are tomorrow and thursday as well (I'm going to one tomoz!)

Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 04:54 AM
Argh, double post!! Speaks,if you're around, delete the first one please!
Nick - How do you get into the HE statistics? Do you use the XML page?
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 04:54 AM
Ix - Just a little sidenote, when I downloaded my sequence, it didn't play the full sequence, just the first fragment. I was using Windows Media Player - is that what I did wrong?
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:00 AM
If you're looking for a replacement for Irwin as NINJA, might I suggest Mark "Jacko" Jackson, in his "OI!" persona from the Energizer ads in the late 80s? Be tough to find one of his action figures, but a cardboard cutout ought to do just fine...
Posted by: WolvHulk | September 05, 2006 at 05:00 AM
zoe- when i did it it played first frag, then a little pause, then it continued on to next frag. give it a couple of senconds and see if thats whats happening.

You watched the full thing? Really? And what do you mean when you say "torch"?
Posted by: | September 05, 2006 at 05:04 AM
danny - I'll try that, because after the first frag it froze up and then it closed due to an error.
WolvHulk - I was thinking more along the lines of Chuck Norris :).
Whoever he is.
Why note make a Flash-animated Ninja and insert it when needed?

Hi All..
Hope those of you who've just had a long weekend feel refreshed and rejuvenated...
Hey Danny - happy almost school...
Posted by: Skirtz | September 05, 2006 at 05:05 AM
Was it a torch, I thought it was the camera lense reflecting in the light?
Posted by: Nickb123 | September 05, 2006 at 05:07 AM
hahaha skirtz very funny i am not looking forward to it lol. i an seriously considering coming down with flu, lol!! nah, my mam can see straight through me i'd be packed off to school. ah well....... :(
Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 05:07 AM
Anon - If you look closely about midway thorugh the TM speech, you can see a torch shining on the wall behind Mittelwerk, and it shows up again right before he sees RB.
The orientation vid is creepy enough, but TM's speech...spooky. Spooky spooky spooky.
RB, again, what the hell have you gotten yourself into?
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:07 AM
Danny - I don't see any reason why not :)
Zoe - Hmm... odd... Try it again, sometimes it just takes a while (it's normally faster the 2nd time through.)
In other news, I've set up a mobile blog for tomorrow's hunt. Photos of what's going on will appear on the blog live as I take them (if this new-fangled technology stuff works!)

Zoetrope AUS -- What is a "torch"?!?!!?
Posted by: | September 05, 2006 at 05:08 AM
I thought camera lenses couldn't reflect light like that. I figured it was her watch or something, which she cleverly forgot to remove from her wrist.
Posted by: Matt the Pale | September 05, 2006 at 05:09 AM
I think for those in the US a torch is a light
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:09 AM
Ix thats awesome! I'm gonna be taking snaps and will then do a fancy blog afterwards. I got college 9-10 and then 2-3 so hopefully i can do a quick glyph and get back in time
Posted by: Nickb123 | September 05, 2006 at 05:09 AM
Speaker i am definately glad to here that your not using that steve irwin doll in your video's anymore. Respect for the dead people.

anon- when i did it it played first frag, then a little pause, then it continued on to next frag. give it a couple of senconds and see if thats whats happening.
Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 05:10 AM
Hmm... I don't think it was a flashlight because the room was already quite bright -- a flashlight wouldn't show up as well on an opposing wall like that, given the HUGE amount of light coming in through the window on Mittelwerk's left. It is definitely something that is reflecting that window light, and most probably something metallic -- not the camera lens.
Posted by: Matt the Pale | September 05, 2006 at 05:11 AM
Now Danny, you know you love school, and when you are all done with school you will be able to get a wonderful job showcasing your hacking abilities!
(Of course I'm teasing you... I loved school... It's just the geek in me...)
Posted by: Danny's Mam (AKA Skirtz) | September 05, 2006 at 05:11 AM
Hey danny (sorry a little slow this morning) did you find a glyph?
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:11 AM
Nick - woah! A busy man! Thankfully I've got the day off (in fact the whole week!) My train gets in at 11ish and I leave at around 6pm so I've got an afternoon to look round the city (I've not been there in a long while!)
Posted by: Ixalon | September 05, 2006 at 05:12 AM
torch = flashlight
Posted by: Skirtz | September 05, 2006 at 05:12 AM
lectric- hiya! no, why did you ask??
Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 05:14 AM
Morning Skirtz!
Nick - It was definately a torch, it was round, then with two little round dark bits in it. You know how a torch shining off of a wall looks :) too hard to put in words. I deduced it through....uh...intuition of a someone who reads Stephen King novels by torchlight.
I think the reflection was off of her eyes, human eyes are notorious for reflecting at the worst possible moment. Which is why, when hiding, one should close one's eyes.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:15 AM
skirtz- lol, nah there ain't nothing wrong with liking school, i mean, i get top grades and stuff (fellow geek). i'd just rather be sat here looking for glyphs, lol!
Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 05:15 AM
Rachel may well be dumb enough to wave a flashlight into mittlewerks face. But I don't think it is.
I just assumed it was a watch or some of her "Bling".
Posted by: Fenris | September 05, 2006 at 05:17 AM
Danny - bigdog said something about good work on finding a glyph above so I thought you had found one. I feel for you having to go to school, and not being able to hunt glyphs
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:18 AM
My camcorder comes with a built in backlight that you can use... Maybe she had that on? Mine is pretty freakin' bright. (Of course for someone who has secret eyeglass-cams and things like that it's a pretty big error...)
Posted by: Skirtz | September 05, 2006 at 05:18 AM
I just figured it was the camera but yeah could have been a watch
Posted by: Nickb123 | September 05, 2006 at 05:19 AM
Guys, it's not a flashlight. There's no light visible when she's looking through the little hole at Mittelwerk, and one can clearly see massive amounts of light streaming into the room from the window behind him (and later to his left). It is most definitely something metallic that is reflecting the light. In a room as brightly-illuminated as the one Mittelwerk is in, a flashlight would not appear so brightly on the opposite wall.
Posted by: Matt the Pale | September 05, 2006 at 05:19 AM
lectric- oh yh, he was just wishing me good luck on completing the video while at school and stuff :)
Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 05:19 AM
Mornin' Zoe!
Posted by: Skirtz | September 05, 2006 at 05:19 AM
The reflection is there in several clips, and TWM definately is looking directly at the camera in many. That last reflection just happened to be on his face.
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:20 AM
then my vote is for watch. Unless she was checking her makeup in her compact... *Um, I was kidding about the last part*
Posted by: Skirtz | September 05, 2006 at 05:20 AM
morning skirtzie! - possible Rochester TLE reunion beginning of November...you up for it?
Posted by: crisy16 | September 05, 2006 at 05:21 AM
Anon - Here in Aus, a torch is what everyone else calls a flashlight.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:21 AM
What's funny is the reflection movements don't match the camera movements so where is the reflection really coming from?
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:22 AM
Matt - Hmm...if not a torch, and not eye reflection (eyes can't reflect THAT bright), it may have been a bracelet or necklace, or it may have been something metallic in one of the crates.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:23 AM
My vote, as I have said earlier, is that it is a reflection from Rachel's watch.
Posted by: Matt the Pale | September 05, 2006 at 05:23 AM
lectric - Maybe a strategically placed hidden relfector or some sort? Backs up my theory that TM set RB up to catch her out, but he didn't bet on her escaping.
And something smashed. There was what looked like a piece of broken glass on the floor. Perhaps another strategically-placed object to stop RB from running?
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:25 AM
R.I.P. Steve Irwin and Canadian soldiers!
Posted by: Exodus 2112 | September 05, 2006 at 05:25 AM
The deep sigh clip clearly has the reflection on mittlewerks face yet he doesn't notice it then. Just some incontinuity in the film nothing major. We all just focus on details too much
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:26 AM
Yes, but he was looking downwards at the time. He may not have noticed the reflection, or he may have noticed it and thought it was just him.

I just think its funny that TPTB wouldn't make sure they didn't do something silly like this, they knew we would pick it apart.
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:29 AM
lectric74 is right. we shouldnt let a silly thing like plot coherency get in the way of a good story!
Posted by: kenaris | September 05, 2006 at 05:29 AM
kenaris - plot consistency??? What's that???lol
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:29 AM
lectric, kenaris - Well it's not like we've got anything better to do whilst waiting for more glyhs! I mean, what else can we do? Nitpick over the LOST episodes? Remenisce about the good old days when the clues were fast and it was all go? Play tag with the Zucat Tao? Forsmootch the rablecords?
I'm all out of ideas.
Where did the nonsense words originate from anyway?
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:32 AM
Hey crisy! Hm, may be up for it... I mentioned it to my husband last night, and he didn't seem opposed to the idea... ROAD TRIP!

zoe - forsmootch the rablecords?????I'm confused
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:37 AM
Whatever caused the reflection, it's obvious that Rachel is a little short in the brains department. She should have at least noticed the reflection earlier and done something about it. If it was just a plot device to ensure she was discovered couldn't they have just made her knock into something?
Posted by: Ixalon | September 05, 2006 at 05:40 AM
lectric - So am I! I just made it up on the spot. What is a rablecord anyway? What's forsmootching? Whaat?!
I know the meaning of ZingPoofie though. You teleport in and out of the blog so fast that you're simultaneously inside and outside of the blog. And then you turn into breakfast cereal. Full of crunchy blogtastic goodness!
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:41 AM
Ix - She was breathing that heavily that she might've been caught in an hour. And she was moving too much. You do NOT move when secretly filming something, it's easier to hide when you're standing still.
Tao the ZuCat has mastered hiding in plain sight. Rachel should try to get a Ph.D in hiding in plain sight.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 05:43 AM
so zingpoofie is like quantum physics, only on larger scale, with the infinite improbability drive thrown in for good measure?
Posted by: lectric74 | September 05, 2006 at 05:43 AM
Hm, seems the board has hit a new level of absurd at an early time of day (well, US Eastern Time anyway!)

Currently I'm listening to White Light.

lectric - Can you use Putfile so that I can download it? That'll be one of my 5 Must Have songs found.
Off-topic, does anyone know which Chemical Brothers song had skeletons dancing in a nightclub in the video clip? It would be an old-ish one, around about 1994-1998ish.

Good evening Zoe! Appologize in advance. Can't type quick or well. Decided to see (again) how sharp a knife was last night... No real damage but the gauze my wife put on it makes it look worse than it is.

JNL - It's better to test it on whatever you're cutting up, NOT yourself. My dad did that. Although that's not the reaosn he can't bend the top joint on his left index finger.

Morning JNL, remember knife sharp, keep away from skin

Now you all tell me...
Was helping wife with dishes and it was in the sink Sharp Up...
Posted by: John - Not Locke | September 05, 2006 at 06:51 AM
I keep the knives out of the sink and just wash them one at a time to avoid that. Of course I cut myself many times before actually learning my lesson

Good Morning Speaker...
Leaving you a virtual cup of coffee to wake your virtual self up...

JNL - Did that once when attemptng to do the dishes on my own (stuffed up anyway, was using cold water), told parents I did it on a rose bush by accident. Lame excuse, but I was 9, what do you except a nine-year-old to come up with?

Good Morning, All!
It has already been said a bunch, but I haven't had a chance to stop by:
Well said, Speaker.
He will be greatly missed.
My boyfriend and I also have always loved animals (a few happen to control our apt) and have been huge fans of Steve Irwin and his work. I also greatly admired him for his work as an environmentalist.
We were in total shock when we heard the news and, like you and many others, assumed that it must be a joke when we first heard the news.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

How's life in the world of dharmachick?
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 07:06 AM
Not bad.
A little tired and smelling of bleach as I went on a cleaning spree yesterday. My place is sparkling, though!
Kinda bummed that the long weekend is over, but I can't complain as I am taking tomorrow off for an appointment, which also frees up my day to go to the Times Square event.
How's life with you, Zoe?
Posted by: dharmachick | September 05, 2006 at 07:09 AM
Well, unless you count the minro pain of two heavily-scratched arms, I'm feeling hugely hyper. I feel like dancing around again, but maybe not right now - too cold. But yes, life is good.
Life will be better when the Supernatural Season 1 DVD is in my hands though.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 07:12 AM
ouch, how did that happen?
Posted by: dharmachick | September 05, 2006 at 07:17 AM
heres what i dont get.. they have been really making this game bad almost like it is on purpose. so many good people have already quit that it is really bothering me.. why are they driving us the fans away? why are they doing this to us?
Posted by: kenaris | September 05, 2006 at 07:18 AM
kenaris- i think they just can't be arsed to keep us entertained, so fob us off with pathetic storylines such as chocolate bars with codes that are very important, but that rachel gave away then asked us to get back. i mean come on, does that make any sense???
Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 07:20 AM
dharmachick - three words: Tao. The. ZuCat.
It'll be cool if I get scars.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 07:21 AM
zoe- lol, you have a very twisted understanding of cool :)
Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 07:22 AM
danny - They're TPTB. They can do pretty much whatever. But come on, free chocolate - who can resist it?
And no,don't bring up psychotrippy nanites, they're in the DRINKS, not the food.
Posted by: Zoetrope AUS | September 05, 2006 at 07:24 AM
JNL-That's regular.. :)
Leighsa, my *&!@&*(^'s don't listen even if the cops are called..
*Grumble*

Posted by: | September 05, 2006 at 07:25 AM

Posted by: danny | September 05, 2006 at 07:27 AM
Morning all, anyone think the caps on Paranoia mean it as a clue or am I just being paranoid?
Posted by: toni | September 05, 2006 at 07:28 AM
The people or powers that be.
Posted by: | September 05, 2006 at 07:28 AM
Zoetrop- I feel for you, I too own a psycho cat who was always stalking and attacking feet at all hours of the day and night, when we finally put her outside she would sit outside the back door waiting for someone to come out so she could attack your ankles as you walked by. Now that she is older she will lure unsuspecting people in by looking cute then when you go to pet her she bites down on your hand. It's kinda funny when you see someone leaning over to pet her, you wanna scream wait no don't do it!! lol
