okay...so we need to go back to season one here for a sec...we have Charles, who apparently was already on the island...who wants to keep Desmond away from Penny...in his office are murals of polar bears, and mountains and Namaste...but then we go to Claire..who has a boyfriend who looks like Ben, but could also look like charles...and he draws murals..like those we found on the island..and she has Aaron....on top of all that..it seems its possible now that the losties have been on the island before in a timeblip...and we then have ben who wants to steal all they're babies...is there maybe now an alterior motive..is it possible charles wanted to keep Desmond from Penny..to keep them safe, that he doesn't actually hate Desmond? I think my head is going to explode.

So on the mantle, I assume you're not talking about the shadow/glasses, but the pi and something else in drawn on a yellow tablet, at least that's what it looks like to me. I'll have to analyze further.
